November 4, 2008 - To help reduce diagnosis time for stroke, serious heart conditions and other life-threatening diseases, PinnacleHealth in Harrisburg, PA will install the Aquilion ONE dynamic volume CT system from Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc.

The Aquilion ONE, the world’s first dynamic volume CT system, can help doctors diagnose life-threatening conditions in minutes, rather than the hours or days previously required. The installation of the Aquilion ONE is part of a five-year agreement in which PinnacleHealth plans to source 85 percent of its new medical imaging systems from Toshiba’s portfolio of CT, MR, vascular X-ray, X-ray and ultrasound devices.

“The strategic business agreement with Toshiba allows PinnacleHealth to provide the most advanced, life-saving technology available to our patients, such as the Aquilion ONE,” said Phil Guarneschelli, chief operating officer, PinnacleHealth. “As the world’s first dynamic volume CT system, the Aquilion ONE can image an entire organ and show function, which means faster, more accurate diagnosis, better patient outcomes and ultimately lower healthcare costs.”

PinnacleHealth will use the Aquilion ONE to treat stroke, orthopedic, vascular and cardiac patients.

The Aquilion ONE utilizes 320 ultra-high resolution detector rows (0.5 mm in width) to image an entire organ in a single gantry rotation. The result is unparalleled in diagnostic imaging today and produces a 4D clinical video showing up to 16 cm of anatomical coverage, enough to capture the entire brain or heart, and show its movement such as blood flow. The Aquilion ONE’s single, comprehensive exam can provide physicians with data to replace a variety of duplicative tests and invasive procedures.

PinnacleHealth offers services ranging from prenatal to geriatrics throughout its multiple locations. In addition to the Aquilion ONE, PinnacleHealth also plans to install $14.5 million in Toshiba medical imaging equipment, including four additional CT systems, five MR systems, 11 Ultrasound systems and eight X-ray systems. As part of this exclusive business agreement, Toshiba will provide value-added services to the hospital such as consulting engagements, productivity and efficiency solutions and marketing services.
