Virtual Phantoms Introduces VirtualDose DX

Dec. 5, 2025 — Virtual Phantoms Inc. has launched VirtualDose DX — the company’s latest innovation in radiation dose estimation, now applied to diagnostic radiography. VPI has developed industry leading software products VirtualDoseCT for CT and VirtualDoseIR for interventional radiology dose estimation. VirtualDoseDX leverages the same validated Monte Carlo–based technology, extending our dose estimation expertise to radiographic (X-ray) exams.

VirtualDoseDX is designed to help clinicians, physicists and researchers gain accurate, accessible radiation dose information for standard radiographic studies

Its key features include

  • Wide Exam Coverage: Includes a catalog of typical radiographic exams with default technique settings.
  • Customizable Parameters: Users can easily adjust x-ray output, orientation, and geometry to match site-specific techniques or patient protocols.
  • Flexible Output Units: The x-ray beam is described by kVp and filtration, as well as output measurement in different units (entrance air kerma, entrance skin exposure, kerma or exposure area product, and tube current/time), matching the formats typically provided by X-ray machines.
  • Consistency Across Modalities: Consistent interface and reporting style consistent with VirtualDoseCT and VirtualDoseIR, simplifying cross-modality dose comparisons.
  • Validated Accuracy: Built on Virtual Phantoms’ rigorously tested dose modeling platform trusted worldwide.
  • Easy to Use, Web-Based: accessible via the Web or an easy-to-configure API permitting batch processing and integration with local patient databases..

VirtualDoseDX is available now as a standalone product or as part of the VirtualDose product suite, giving users a complete platform for dose estimation across CT, IR, and X-ray exams. VDDX is also available to current users for free for a limited time to try and explore.
