The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) announced the 2023 impact factors today for its suite of journals

June 24, 2024 — The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) announced the 2023 impact factors today for its suite of journals. Radiology, RSNA’s leading medical imaging research journal, was cited nearly 60,000 times, according to the Clarivate Analytics Journal Citation Reports. Impact factor uses citation data to measure the relevance and influence of academic journals.

“The Journal Citation Reports impact factor calculation remains an important metric used by authors, publishers, readers and academic groups and institutions to assess the relative importance of a journal in its field,” said Jeffrey S. Klein, M.D., RSNA Board Liaison for Publications.

RSNA is the leading voice in radiology research and education. The Society publishes five established journals: Radiology, RadioGraphics, Radiology: Artificial Intelligence, Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging and Radiology: Imaging Cancer. A sixth journal, published by RSNA in partnership with Oxford University Press, launched earlier this year. Radiology Advances, RSNA’s first exclusively open-access journal, includes a broad spectrum of high-quality international radiology research, freely available to readers without a subscription.

The Society’s flagship journal, Radiology, is the world’s foremost journal for new, important and translatable discoveries in medical imaging research and provides meaningful information to medical imaging physicians and scientists aiming to improve health and reduce the burden of disease. It is the most cited journal in its field.

Edited by Linda Moy, M.D., Radiology has an impact factor of 12.1. Radiology was cited 59,748 times and ranks first in journal citation indicator and second in impact factor among 204 journals in the Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Medical Imaging category.

Published regularly since 1923, Radiology has long been recognized as the authoritative reference for the most current, clinically relevant and highest quality research in the field of radiology. Each month, the journal publishes peer-reviewed original research, authoritative reviews and expert opinion on new techniques and technologies.

RadioGraphics, RSNA’s premier educational journal, edited by Christine ‘Cooky’ Menias, M.D., has an impact factor of 5.2 with 15,185 citations. The popular journal has nearly doubled its impact factor since 2015.

Launched in 1981, RadioGraphics is one of the leading education journals in diagnostic radiology. Each bimonthly issue features practice-focused articles spanning the full spectrum of radiologic subspecialties. With an emphasis on education presented at RSNA’s annual meeting, RadioGraphics’ primary mission is to publish the best in peer-reviewed educational material for radiologists, trainees, physicists and other radiology professionals.

Radiology: Artificial Intelligence, edited by Charles E. Kahn Jr., M.D., continues to shine, with an impact factor of 8.1 and 2,163 citations. The journal, which debuted in 2019, highlights the emerging applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the field of imaging across multiple disciplines.

Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging, edited by Suhny Abbara, M.D., has an impact factor of 3.8 with 1,226 citations. The journal, introduced in 2019, emphasizes new research and technical developments in imaging that drive cardiothoracic medicine and serves as an invaluable resource for healthcare professionals, providing them with the latest advances, clinical guidelines and evidence-based insights necessary for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning.

Radiology: Imaging Cancer, edited by Gary D. Luker, M.D., is expanding its influence with an impact factor of 5.6 and 491 citations. Launched in 2019, the journal focuses on screening, differential diagnosis and treatment planning across imaging subspecialties, organ systems and modalities and presents an interdisciplinary perspective on cancer imaging.

“RSNA is proud of its editors, their editorial boards and our contributing authors, reviewers and the RSNA publications group in maintaining the exceptionally high quality of our journals, all of which remain solidly among the top 20% of journals indexed in the field of radiology, nuclear medicine and medical imaging,” Dr. Klein said.
