July 31, 2024 — The National Imaging Informatics Course (NIIC), a pioneering program in the radiology field, will return online September 23–27, 2024. This week-long, online course, a partnership between the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM), offers a unique opportunity for professionals at all levels to expand their knowledge of imaging informatics.

Open to trainees, practicing radiologists, informaticists, and scientists in radiology and pathology, NIIC provides an affordable way to earn continuing education credits. According to a written statement on the program issued by RSNA, the program is designed to benefit everyone from fourth-year radiology residents to seasoned professionals.

There is a September 4 deadline for early registration.

“Now in its eighth year, the NIIC offers a unique glimpse into imaging informatics for trainees, practicing imaging physicians, informaticists, and scientists in radiology and pathology,” said Tessa S. Cook, M.D., Ph.D., who developed the course along with Nabile M. Safdar, M.D., and Katherine Andriole, Ph.D.

NIIC is the first course of its kind to delve into comprehensive fundamental principles in today’s real-world ecosystem of imaging informatics to create enduring engagement and innovation within the field.

This course covers a range of topics from clinical workflow, PACS and standards to data science, algorithms and the business of informatics.

Participants develop a well-rounded understanding of the field, demystify business cases and become more confident and proficient in an evolving healthcare landscape. It is also the perfect introduction for non-radiology professionals to the field of imaging informatics, where they can gain relevant understanding of how medical systems work and how they impact patient care.

NIIC offers an intimate learning experience that includes small group discussions, live online lectures, on-demand content, assessments and homework assignments.

Successful participants receive a certificate and qualify for up to 20 hours of SIIM IIP Credits for ABII Certification and Recertification.

“If you haven’t had the chance to experience it, what are you waiting for?” Dr. Cook said.
