February 16, 2022 — The next term of the National Imaging Informatics Course-Radiology (NIIC-RAD) will be held online February 28 to March 4, 2022. NIIC-RAD—is made possible through a partnership between the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM).

“I'm excited about the upcoming NIIC-RAD course,” said Nabile M. Safdar, M.D., who developed the course along with Tessa S. Cook, M.D., Ph.D., and Katherine Andriole, Ph.D. “I get to hear the brightest minds in our field explain where the practice of radiology is going and how it is changing. NIIC-RAD provides a road map of what my practice needs to consider for the future, conferring it a strategic advantage.”

NIIC-RAD is the first course of its kind offering imaging informatics education to trainees, practicing radiologists and allied professionals around the world. The course covers fundamentals like clinical workflow and patient centric radiology, and other topics, such as data science, mission learning and 3D printing.

The course format consists of live online lectures, online small group discussions and content available on demand. There are pre- and post-course assessments and homework assignments throughout the term.

While designed with fourth-year radiology residents in mind, the course will benefit anyone looking to increase their skillset within the field, including students, healthcare professionals at all levels, and industry partners.

“If you want to be equipped with the inside track on what’s happening with clinical decision support, artificial intelligence, standards, regulatory frameworks and entrepreneurship, this is the course for you,” Safdar said. “The training programs that enroll their residents in this course are giving them a competitive advantage as they go to the next stage in their careers.”

Pre-course work begins February 21, 2022. Successful participants receive a certificate and qualify for up to 20 hours of SIIM IIP Credits for ABII Certification and Recertification. Additionally, participants can earn a SIIM Course Digital Badge.

Upcoming NIIC-RAD courses will be held September 19–23, 2022, and March 6–10, 2023.
