April 11, 2012 - Georgian Radiology Consultants, of Barrie, Ontario, installed CARESTREAM DRX-1 systems at each of its six imaging clinics that serve a community of 360,000 centered around Barrie, north of Toronto. The implementation of Carestream’s wireless DR detectors was an integral part of the group’s conversion to an all-digital workflow that began with implementation of a PACS and an EMR. The DRX
systems were purchased from and installed by BCL X-Ray Canada Inc., an authorized Carestream distributor.

“Immediate access to imaging studies boosts our efficiency while the wireless capabilities of the DRX systems enhance communication of X-ray images to our PACS,” said Raymond Frank, manager, Georgian Radiology Consultants. “We can image more patients in less time, provide excellent service to walk-in and scheduled patients, and deliver same day radiology reports. Our referring physicians and their patients will benefit from this investment in new technology.”

The group selected Carestream’s cesium iodide DRX-1C detector because of its image quality advantages. “This detector offers exceptional DQE (detective quantum efficiency) that allows our clinics to produce extremely high-quality images at a lower radiation dose that ultimately benefits our patients,” said Dr. Drew Schemmer, MD, Georgian Radiology’s clinic director.

The ability to integrate state-of-the-art DR technology in its existing X-ray rooms was a vital element in the group’s digital conversion.

“Our group is making a large investment in our conversion from film and paper to digital imaging and PACS. Our goal is to be able to offer better imaging services to the Barrie area, which is one of the fastest growing communities in Canada. We evaluated all our options and purchased Carestream’s DRX detectors because they offer proven performance and exceptional image quality and versatility,” said Schemmer. “Our goal is to offer the highest level of imaging services and health care to Barrie area residents.”
