MEDRAD Injection System Senses Media Pooling, Stops Injection

The MEDRAD Stellant CT Injection System provides saline flush capabilities and protocol options.

The DualFlow upgrade enables simultaneous injection of contrast and saline while the XDS detects the start of an extravasation by directly sensing contrast media pooling under the skin and automatically stopping injection until a clinician can examine the patient.

The Spectris Solaris EP MR Injection System, also featured at RSNA, promises enhanced power management performance through longer battery life and an Integrated Continuous Battery Charger (iCBC) option.

For current and emerging needs in the MR environment, the newest MR injector from the MEDRAD is compatible with all magnet strengths up to 3.0T, according to its manufacturer.
The MEDRAD Avanta is an advanced fluid management system that is reportedly flexible enough for multiple cardiac imaging applications.

It is intended to inject contrast in variable mode at low flow rates and low pressures for coronary and small vessels, fixed mode at high flow rates and high-pressure injections for larger vessels and peripherals and fixed mode for saline flushing.

Iron Outperforms Gadolinium as MRI Contrast Agent

Scientists at Rice's Laboratory for Nanophotonics added iron chelates (blue) and fluorescent dye (red) to multi-layered gold nanomatryoshkas to create particles that can be used for disease therapy and diagnostics. The "theranostic" nanoparticles have a core of gold (left) that is covered by silica containing the diagnostic iron and dye, which is covered by an outer shell of gold. The particles are about 20 times smaller than a red blood cell, and by varying the thickness of the layers, LANP scientists can tune the nanomatryoshkas to convert light into cancer-killing heat.
