April 3, 2008 – New medical equipment company Medifico Inc. this week launched the Brainvue-TCD 1000, which uses ultrasound to measure blood flow in the brain to aid in the diagnosis, prevention, intervention, and treatment of strokes, migraines, concussions, sickle cell disease and detection of PFOs (holes between the chambers of the heart).
The device is a portable, hand-held, battery-operated unit. The company said it can also be used for soldiers in battle, as well as athletes prone to head injuries.
Medifico said it wants to focus on providing under-served U.S. communities with technologically advanced medical equipment. The Brain Attack Coalition, a division of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) has emphasized the great need for brain imaging equipment in U.S. hospitals and medical offices where these units are financially out of reach. Medifico said will make it possible for more of these medical facilities to gain access to this equipment.
