January 29, 2014 — KLAS spoke to 176 providers to identify strengths and weaknesses of best-of-breed and enterprise vendors and found the two competitive, according to the report Oncology 2013: Eyes Wide Open

Enterprise vendors such as Cerner and Epic were found to be making an impact in medical oncology, and providers report that best-of-breed vendors Elekta and Varian continue to deliver the necessary and desired functionality as well as the full oncology IT suite. McKesson was also recognized for its purchase of US Oncology and the iKnowMed solution.

"The best-of-breed vendors have had to tighten up their interfacing capabilities to prove that they can compete with the enterprise vendors," said Monique Rasband, report author. "However, with only 67 percent of providers in the study attesting for meaningful use, it is clear that there is a lot of room for growth and support from all oncology vendors."

The vendors in this study include BMSi, Cerner, Elekta, Epic, IntrinsiQ, McKesson and Varian.
