Carestream Health’s advanced medical imaging systems consistently meet the diagnostic imaging and workflow needs at Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla.

September 16, 2021 — Carestream Health’s advanced medical imaging systems consistently meet the diagnostic imaging and workflow needs at Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla. The hospital is part of Health First, Central Florida's only fully integrated delivery network. This 514-bed facility includes the only Level II Trauma Center and Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Brevard County.

Patricia “Dianna” Green, Director of Clinical Operations at Holmes Regional Medical Center, says the network is supported by a large Carestream presence — and two units in particular have made life easier for radiologists and radiographers alike. The Carestream DRX-Evolution Plus and the Carestream DRX-Excel Plus keep up with the high pace of radiology exams at the facility.

“From a technology standpoint, the systems meet all of our needs,” Green said. “They’re easy to use and allow us to complete core diagnostic exams on inpatients and outpatients. We’re able to perform the exams efficiently and obtain the highest-quality images. The radiologists have been complimentary of the images. The Auto Long Length Imaging option on the DRX-Evolution allows for accurate imaging of the total spine, which is an advantage for our surgeons and technologists.”

Carestream’s flagship X-ray room, the DRX-Evolution Plus, offers clinical facilities a table with higher-weight capacity, enhanced pediatric capabilities and extended tube-column range for high ceilings. The DRX-Evolution Plus, like other Carestream products, offers the power of the X-Factor, with a wireless DRX Plus Detector that works across virtually all systems.

Carestream’s DRX-Excel Plus R/F systems are configured with a table and a tube in one system. An optional integrated flat panel detector produces high-resolution images for general radiography as well as fluoroscopic sequences. The DRX-Excel Plus platform, as a conventional R/F system, uses either computed radiography (CR) or a wireless DRX detector for radiology and an image intensifier for the fluoroscopy exam.

Holmes Regional Medical Center opted to outfit their R/F room with the capabilities of a fully functioning digital radiography (DR) room, as well as the standard features of a conventional R/F room, by installing a Carestream DRX-Ascend system with an overhead tube in conjunction with the DRX-Excel Plus. By installing both systems together, they can operate the radiography exams on the same Carestream ImageView clinical acquisition software as the DRX-Evolution Plus. ImageView software, powered by its Eclipse image-processing engine, offers enhanced, secure productivity and patient care in a single platform. The user-friendly software is a bonus for Holmes Regional Medical Center.

“It's easy for associates to navigate from one application to the other—to go in and out from the exam back to the original screen,” Ms. Green said.

Holmes Regional Medical Center performs a variety of exams, from abdominal and pelvic exams to spinal X-rays. The center offers interventional neuro-radiology procedures for advanced stroke treatment.

“Health First is customer focused and being able to use the newest technology available allows us to provide an excellent customer experience,” Ms. Green added. “Customers want to be able to get in and out. We're able to perform their exams very quickly and comfortably, allowing for them to get back home or back upstairs to their rooms, where they want to be.”
