HIMSS Supports New Obama Nominees

March 4, 2009 - H. Stephen Lieber, CAE, president and CEO of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) today released a statement supporting President Obama’s nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services and Director of White House Health Reform Office.

The statement reads:

“HIMSS is pleased to see Governor Kathleen Sebelius selected to be President Obama's nominee to be Secretary of Health and Human Services and Nancy-Ann DeParle as Director, White House Health Reform Office.

“Given the convergence of healthcare reform and the acceleration of steps to a Nationwide Health Information Network, Governor Sebelius and Ms. DeParle are exceptional choices to lead HHS and its many components in achieving quality and cost-effective care delivery in the U.S. healthcare system.

“In our estimation, both understand the important roles healthcare information and management systems play in achieving national milestones that incorporate patient and providers needs.

HIMSS looks forward to working with Governor Sebelius and Ms. DeParle to achieve widespread adoption of healthcare information technology solutions that positively impact healthcare delivery in the U.S.”
