First High-Def PET System Hits SNM

June 4, 2007 - Siemens Medical Solutions introduced the world's first and high definition PET technology reportedly offering consistently sharper and clearly defined images across the entire field of view, at the 2007 Society of Nuclear Medicine Annual Meeting (SNM), held June 2-6 in Washington, DC.

By utilizing a proprietary reconstruction technique, HD-PET can provide distortion-free images throughout the entire field of view. This improved 2-millimeter resolution enables physicians to clearly visualize the smallest of lesions from the center to the edges.

Adding high definition to PET systems also dramatically enhances contrast. The improvement in signal to noise, which effectively doubles, reveals sharper images that allow the clinician to better differentiate between healthy and suspicious tissue.
