Company will highlight patient studies for CBCT plus two new ultrasound systems

July 10, 2015 - Carestream is expanding into new imaging modalities - cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and ultrasound - and key advances in these areas will be demonstrated at the Association for Medical Imaging Management (AHRA) conference July 19-22. For cone beam CT, which is currently undergoing patient studies, a conceptual scale model will be on display.

These patient studies will help guide Carestream's development of new CBCT systems for orthopedic imaging at hospitals, clinics and sports medicine providers. Cone beam CT systems use less radiation than traditional CT; are compact and affordable; and can be used in a wide range of facilities.

Carestream is exploring the benefits of CBCT technology for capturing images of patient extremities including weight-bearing images of knees, legs and feet, which are of particular interest to orthopaedic and sports medicine specialists.

The CBCT system used in this study is investigational and not available for commercial sale.

The new ultrasound systems, also to be on display at AHRA, recently received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance and are available for order in the United States. The Carestream Touch Prime Ultrasound System and the Carestream Touch Prime XE Ultrasound System are both designed for general diagnostic imaging use in radiology.

The Carestream Touch Prime XE employs the company's Touch Prime SynTek Architecture, a combination of advanced technologies that simultaneously provide enhanced spatial detail with increased frame rate while optimizing image formation to reduce noise and artifacts.

Both systems offer a sealed, all-touch control panel that combines the speed and flexibility of a soft user interface with the tactile feedback of traditional keys. Etched marking for primary controls make it possible for the user to key functions without looking away from the monitor.

Carestream also will showcase its advanced healthcare IT software solutions that address the workflow needs of imaging centers and small hospitals to multi-site healthcare systems.

Carestream's Vue Motion enterprise viewer has received FDA clearance for clinical reading, and equips physicians and specialists to view imaging studies and radiology reports on popular tablets, phones and other mobile devices.

The company's vendor-neutral archive (VNA) links radiology, endoscopy, pathology, cardiology, lab results and other forms of data, while its Clinical Collaboration Platform can complement a provider's existing departmental picture archiving and communication system (PACS) or archive with a series of optional modules that can bring unstructured data into the clinical workflow and enhance the delivery of patient images and reports to clinicians and patients.
