Testing showcases BridgeHead’s ability to protect PACS images in real world environment

November 14, 2012 — BridgeHead Software announced its file archiving data and storage management system for PACS (picture archiving and communication system) image data protection has been successfully tested by Fujifilm at a leading U.S. hospital. Fujifilm conducted extensive testing with BridgeHead’s solution which, in addition to offering an archiving system, provides unique and critical protection of PACS images against image loss. The testing exercise was carried out to ensure that such protection does not disrupt the PACS cardiology system’s workflow. The BridgeHead solution is the only modern protection offering specifically designed for healthcare data management.

Fujifilm conducted interoperability testing of its Synapse Cardiovascular System and Synapse Cardiovascular Archiver together with BridgeHead Software to determine the complete function of the image files' communication. The hospital requested a validation of the configuration to evaluate the use of the BridgeHead system, and at the conclusion of the test, Fujifilm provided BridgeHead and the hospital with a test report in which all 11 functionalities tested were validated.

BridgeHead’s solution is a policy-based archive and storage management system for file data that offers comprehensive image protection. Images are at risk of loss from disk failures, silent data corruption and erroneous file deletes. Even images that are protected in vendor-neutral archive (VNA) repositories are still at risk of loss from these threats.

“Management of PACS images is an extension of patient care. When images are needed by clinicians, it is absolutely critical that those images be available,” said Craig Boisclair, CIIP, PACS administrator for Sturdy Memorial Hospital, which has worked with BridgeHead Software for a number of years. “We depend on BridgeHead’s protection of our Fujifilm PACS images to ensure this availability. Before choosing the BridgeHead platform, I was left uncertain if I could recover our images when needed. Now, I’m positive that I can and will fully address client needs due to enhanced image accessibility and improved workflow.”

File-level protection provided by BridgeHead is an essential building block in BridgeHead’s Healthcare Data Management (HDM), a solution suite designed to ‘Bridge The Gap’ between what clinicians want and what IT professionals need. Clinicians want assured image availability when and where required. IT professionals need data management solutions which work with all clinical applications across the whole hospital, and with capabilities designed to tackle the continuing growth and complexity of data. BridgeHead’s HDM suite is the only solution designed to bridge the gap between best practices in data management and the specific requirements of healthcare data.

“High availability for PACS images has become a high priority for many hospitals and health systems in the United States,” said Matt Boardman, lead business analyst with Katalus, a healthcare technology solutions provider. “Healthcare organizations that want to safeguard those images from disk failures, silent data corruption or erroneous deletes could benefit greatly from the image protection capabilities offered by solutions like BridgeHead’s FileStore, either as a standalone solution or as a complement to a VNA.”

“Working with leading institutions like Sturdy Memorial Hospital teaches us that today’s PACS administrators demand more from archive systems because healthy patient care depends on healthy image data,” said Jim Beagle, CEO of BridgeHead Software. “BridgeHead’s HDM suite is the only software that combines image protection together with DICOM and non-DICOM archiving, to ensure image availability for healthcare.”
