The Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research (The Academy) and the Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance (QIBA) announce the recipients of their inaugural Academy Council of Early Career Investigators in Imaging (CECI²) & QIBA Fellowship

Ashwin Singh Parihar, MD

October 31, 2022 —  The Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research (The Academy) and the Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance (QIBA) announce the recipients of their inaugural Academy Council of Early Career Investigators in Imaging (CECI²) & QIBA Fellowship: Shanshan Jiang, PhD, and Ashwin Singh Parihar, MD. This partnered fellowship will offer these early-career investigators the opportunity to engage with some of our communities’ foremost experts in the field of quantitative imaging.

Dr. Jiang is a member of the CECI² Class of 2020-21 and an assistant professor of radiology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Her research focuses on developing and applying novel MRI methodologies to neurological diseases.

Dr. Parihar is a member of the CECI² Class of 2022 and an instructor in radiology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. His research focuses on theranostics, nuclear medicine and oncologic imaging.

The two fellows will be recognized during the 2022 Quantitative Imaging Symposium sponsored by QIBA on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the 108th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA 2022) in Chicago.

As QIBA’s mission seeks to improve the value and practicality of quantitative imaging biomarkers by reducing variability across devices, sites, patients, and time, they uniquely identify the needs, barriers and solutions necessary in promoting the health and wellbeing of patients. Clearly aligning with the Academy’s mission of advancing research in medical imaging, this Academy-QIBA fellowship opportunity provides a unique and exciting opportunity for collaboration.

This fellowship opportunity was specifically extended to members of the Academy’s CECI² Council, which was formed in 2014 to recognize the achievements of researchers who are in the early phases of their careers and engage them in advocacy for research funding. Since its establishment, the CECI² program has continued to develop and become increasingly impactful—having now reached over 150 young investigators—and includes programming geared towards career development, networking, grant funding, and more.

This fellowship will provide an opportunity to receive mentorship from QIBA experts, learn from and contribute to the activities of a specific Biomarker Committee and help build a social media presence to raise awareness of QIBA.

We look forward to these inaugural fellows’ experience and contribution to QIBA, as well as cementing this opportunity for future members of the Academy’s CECI².
