Molecular Targeting Technologies Inc. (MTTI) announced Dr. Kai Chen of the University of Southern California was awarded the 2013 Center for Molecular Imaging Innovation and Translation (CMIIT) Young Investigator Award during the annual meeting of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) in Vancouver, Canada. Chen presented results from his study entitled: “Synthesis and evaluation of a novel bis (zinc(II)-dipicolyamine) derivative for dual-modality PET/NIRF [positron emission tomography/near-infrared flourescence] imaging of phosphatidylserine exposure.”

August 20, 2013 — Heavy use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be leading to unnecessary breast removal in older women with breast cancer, according to a study by Yale School of Medicine researchers in the current issue of Breast Cancer Research and Treatment.

IMRIS Inc. announced that a craniotomy recently performed on a 5-year-old boy with epilepsy was the 500th neurosurgical case at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, using its intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) system. Cook Children's was the second children's hospital in the United States and fourth hospital worldwide with an IMRIS system that features a high-field MRI, which moves between surgical and diagnostic rooms using ceiling-mounted rails.
