Next-Gen POC ultrasound system accelerates diagnoses and elevates confidence in critical care moments.

Philips Introduces Point-of-Care Ultrasound System

June 17, 2025 — Royal Philips has announced the global launch of the Flash Ultrasound System 5100 POC — a new point-of-care (POC) ultrasound system engineered for the fast-moving needs of anesthesia, critical care, emergency medicine and musculoskeletal imaging. Built on Philips’ established foundation of cardiology and general imaging ultrasound technology, Flash 5100 POC combines exceptional image clarity, smart automation and intuitive touchscreen controls in a highly portable system that supports rapid, confident decision-making for users of all experience levels. Its encounter-based workflow enables clinicians to perform and document exams in real time, without waiting for formal orders, making it ideal for high-pressure environments like the ER, ICU, and trauma units.

“The Philips Flash 5100 POC represents a major leap forward in our commitment to Point-of-Care ultrasound innovation,” said Jeff Cohen, Global Business Leader of Ultrasound at Philips. “It’s built to empower health systems to act faster and treat smarter—delivering critical information to clinicians and non-traditional ultrasound users in the most time-sensitive and demanding environments. Designed for speed, mobility, and precision, it empowers clinicians to make confident, real-time decisions in the most urgent settings—at the bedside, in the ICU, the emergency department, or the OR. With advanced algorithms and smart automation, Flash 5100 POC delivers the critical information clinicians need—when and where they need them most.”

The Philips Future Health Index 2025 global report revealed that 33% of patients surveyed have experienced worsening health due to delays in seeing a doctor, and more than 1 in 4 end up in the hospital due to long wait times. As healthcare systems face mounting pressure from staff shortages, rising patient volumes, and the need for faster, more flexible care delivery, point-of-care ultrasound is increasingly vital.

The Philips Flash 5100 POC is designed for precisely these environments, where time, clarity, and precision can make all the difference. Combining high performance with true portability and seamless interoperability, the system enables clinicians to make confident decisions at the bedside or on the move. With built-in support for Philips tele-ultrasound solution, Collaboration Live1, clinicians can also connect with remote colleagues in real-time, sharing screens, images, and guidance instantly. “In today’s overburdened clinical landscape, that kind of remote collaboration isn’t just helpful—it’s essential,” Cohen added.

“The Flash 5100 POC system was designed with the physician or clinician in mind. The ease of use, user interface, and adjustability were thoughtfully designed. What stands out to me the most is the advanced features - the abilities for needle visualization and more advanced ultrasound use really made an impression,” said Chanel Fischetti, MD, Assistant Professor, Brigham and Women’s Hospital. “Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) is and will always be about making ultrasound accessible for all: for both diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. What makes POCUS sticky and both teachable and learnable is how easily and quickly users adopt the machines and equipment. Flash 5100 POC offers that to sonographers of all skillsets and will be a well-received player in the existing market.”

Expanding Global Ultrasound Footprint

Philips ultrasound systems support an estimated 52 million point-of-care procedures annually, helping diagnose and treat 41 million patients worldwide2. The new Flash 5100 POC system is a step forward in meeting the growing demand for fast, agile, high-performance POC ultrasound imaging in POC settings. Flash 5100 POC features future-ready software and cross-platform transducer compatibility—including the award-winning mL26-8, ideal for MSK specialties3. It integrates seamlessly within Philips’ POC ecosystem, including Lumify and the Compact 5000 Series, giving healthcare systems a cost-effective way to scale, standardize care, and deliver precision where it’s needed most.

New FDA clearances for AI Applications

Philips is accelerating innovation in the Point-of-Care ultrasound space with two FDA-cleared AI applications for Lumify, reinforcing its commitment to delivering smarter, faster frontline care. These clearances are followed by recent FDA clearances for the next-gen Compact 5000 Series, which launched in March and introduced advanced AI capabilities to further enhance clinical decision-making. Together, these milestones highlight Philips’ ongoing investment in intelligent, scalable solutions that improve diagnostic confidence, streamline workflows, and expand access to high-quality care when and where it matters most.
