February 2, 2023 — Five additional imaging centers across Allegheny Health Network (AHN) have been recognized by the American College of Radiology (ACR) as Diagnostic Imaging Centers of Excellence (DICOE), including those at AHN Wexford Hospital, AHN Forbes Hospital, AHN Peters Township Health + Wellness Pavilion, AHN Imaging – Sewickley and AHN Cancer Institute – Saint Vincent in Erie. This latest recognition brings the total number of AHN facilities having received the DICOE designation to 20.

Considered the highest achievement for medical imaging facilities, the DICOE designation indicates that the facility delivers patient care quality and radiation safety at the highest levels. It recognizes excellence across a facility’s entire diagnostic imaging program, including its professional and ancillary staff, technologies, policies and procedures.

Across Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio and Delaware, AHN is the only health system to achieve this prestigious designation among adult imaging centers, says Bethany Casagranda, DO, chair of the AHN Imaging Institute.

“Providing an accurate, timely diagnosis of any health issue is critical to helping patients address their care needs swiftly and appropriately so that they can live their best lives possible. That’s what our Living Health model is all about,” said Dr. Casagranda. “Behind every such diagnosis that’s made daily across AHN’s hospitals and clinics is an exceptionally talented team of medical imaging specialists who have set the standard for patient care excellence that is reflected in our many DICOE designations.”

Other AHN hospitals with DICOE status include Allegheny General Hospital, Allegheny Valley Hospital (AVH), Canonsburg Hospital, West Penn Hospital, Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie, and Westfield Memorial Hospital in New York. Other AHN imaging centers with the designation include AVH Radiological Imaging, Forbes Outpatient Imaging Center, Saint Vincent Hospital – East Side Imaging Center, Saint Vincent Imaging Center at the Westside Health + Wellness Pavilion, and the Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion. AHN outpatient centers with the designation are in Fox Chapel, Hempfield, New Kensington and Westmoreland.

AHN and Highmark Health have invested approximately $400 million over the past several years to enhance the technological capabilities of the AHN Imaging Institute and expand its patient care capacity across the region. The Institute’s board-certified radiologists at more than 36 locations provide a range of services including bone density testing, mammography, MRI, PET/CT scanning, ultrasound, X-ray and more.
