August 11, 2022 — Bracco Imaging S.p.A. has announced the renewal of the “Bracco Fellowships” initiative, in partnership with the European Society of Radiology (ESR), for the promotion of excellence among European radiologists.

The fellowships will be allocated to 70 clinical, 20 research and 5 management grants, to be granted between 2023 and 2025, in support the education of young radiologists with a high leadership potential in leading hospitals and health institutions.

The program was originally launched in 2017 in partnership with the European School of Radiology (ESOR), an institution which fulfills the mission of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) in the field of education. As such, ESOR continues to manage the program. The educational initiative is part of the Bracco Group’s efforts to sustain the imaging diagnostics community, according to a news release published by Bracco during the European Congress of Radiology (ECR), held in July, 2022.

“Bracco Fellowships are the result of a long-lasting collaboration with ESOR, whom we thank for their outstanding effort in high-quality education for the radiology community,” according to Fulvio Renoldi Bracco, Chief Executive Officer of Bracco Imaging. He added, “We shouldn’t forget that the future of diagnostics is in the hands of young talents who deserve all of our trust and support. We truly hope that this initiative for young radiologists will be an important incentive to look towards the future with enthusiasm.”

Bracco Fellowships differ from other established ESOR Scholarships/Fellowships as they are not designed to cover a wider/ general area of a subspeciality, according to ESOR, which noted that candidates may apply for one of the three available types:

Clinical Fellowship – 2 months
The aim of the clinical fellowship is to learn about a specific disease or technique, a protocol, specific organ, specific approach or clinical application.

Management Fellowship – 2 months
The aim of the management fellowship is to understand the multiprofessional organization of radiology departments.

Research Fellowship – 4 months
The goal of this program is to develop skills in research and research methodology.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Bracco for their continued support of ESOR’s educational endeavors since its foundation in 2007,” said Dr. Valérie Vilgrain, who has served as the Scientific/Educational Director of ESOR (European School of Radiology) since March 2018.

“ESOR is proud to offer a bold educational program, including the Bracco fellowships, which are devoted to the professional and scientific development of young radiologists,” added Vilgrain, Chair of the Department of Radiology at the University Beaujon Hospital and Professor of Radiology at the University of Paris, France. She added, “Together with Bracco, we succeeded to develop these fellowships further and to continuously adapt them to the changing educational demands. During the past 15 years ESOR has become a gradual provider of medical education in radiology in Europe and beyond. The invaluable cooperation with Bracco has enabled ESOR to open the world of education for many people, giving opportunities to young radiologists.”
