Audacious strategic objectives to drive and focus ACR activities

“Empowering the Radiologist of the Future” is a bold new American College of Radiology (ACR) strategic plan to increase member value, improve radiologic care and strengthen healthcare for all Americans.

February 10, 2022 — “Empowering the Radiologist of the Future” is a bold new American College of Radiology (ACR) strategic plan to increase member value, improve radiologic care and strengthen healthcare for all Americans.

“The strategic plan — developed by, with and for members — makes ACR decision making more inclusive, transparent and effective as it positions members, their practices and the ACR for future success,” said Howard B. Fleishon, MD, MMM, FACR, Chair of the American College of Radiology Board of Chancellors.

Twelve interconnected and interdependent strategic objectives, organized across four organizational perspectives, will focus and drive ACR activities in coming years.  When fully implemented, the plan will support improved health equity, quality, delivery and outcomes.

“This bold new initiative will help bring our members together to speak with one voice, to act to improve patient care, and to bolster the College’s position at the forefront of US medicine,” Frank J.  Lexa, MD, MBA, FACR, co-chair of the ACR Strategic Planning Committee. “Our strategy work will guide the ACR as our healthcare system undergoes rapid changes in regulation, in payment, in types of care delivery, as well as from a host of other challenging factors.”

The objectives include measures to continue to: increase inclusivity and transparency in ACR decision making, strengthen multidirectional communication, promote radiologists’ role in population health and health equity, and champion leveraging and mobilization of emerging technology and artificial intelligence.

“Based on our founding principles and extensive member and medical environment research, the new plan leverages ACR member value, professionalism and leadership to make healthcare better and move radiology forward,” said Alex Norbash, MD, MHCM, FACR, co-chair of the ACR Strategic Planning Committee.
