July 28, 2021 —If you plan to attend HIMSS21 Aug. 9-13 in Las Vegas, be sure to note that due to health and safety updates, masks will now be required for attendees and exhibitors.

On Tuesday, July 27, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued updated guidance recommending fully vaccinated people wear masks in public indoor settings to help prevent the spread of the Delta variant and help protect others. Additionally, on July 27, the Governor of Nevada issued Emergency Directives 045 and 047 (full text can be found via the link here). On the same day, the Nevada Gaming Control Board adopted guidance stating “everyone, regardless of vaccination status, should wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high transmission.” Clark County is specifically identified as an area subject to this new guidance.

In a letter to exhibitors and attendees, the society stated: "In alignment with applicable guidance from the CDC, the Governor of Nevada, the Southern Nevada Health District guidance, the Clark County Commissioners, and the Nevada Gaming Control Board, masks will be required on the HIMSS21 Campus.

"Our goal is to host a safe and meaningful conference. We recognize that the situation and applicable guidance may continue to evolve through the HIMSS21 event.  We thank you for your commitment to being the change, safely, and we look forward to seeing you on-site in Las Vegas."

HIMSS has made available the HIMSS21 Health and Safety Hub, where it will provide detailed health and safety guidance along with ongoing updates. Prospective attendees and exhibitors can visit the link to get information on:

  • Right of entry protocols (including a vaccination requirement)
  • Additional on-site health and safety measures

Information on these topics, as well as frequently asked questions (FAQs) and external resources, is available. HIMSS will continue to provide updates as it moves closer to HIMSS21 and further refines details around what it will look like to be together again.
