May 10, 2019 — Imaging Technology News (ITN) earned an Honorable Mention at the 2019 National Azbee Awards of Excellence in the Cross-Platform Package of the Year category for its coverage of the ITN editorial team’s visit to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Ill.

The April 2018 ITN visit was precipitated on seeing CDH’s mobile stroke unit (MSU), one of only two dozen or so in the entire U.S. An MSU is an ambulance with an onboard computed tomography (CT) scanner so that patients can be scanned on-site at the call to determine if they are having a stroke and if so what kind. The images are seen immediately by an on-call neurologist back at the hospital who can then communicate directly with the ambulance crew and advise on how to begin treatment. The concept behind the MSU is to reduce the time to treatment, a critical factor in patient survival.

The ITN team also spent time in the hospital’s Radiology and Breast Imaging departments. In the Breast Imaging department, ITN Associate Editor Jeff Zagoudis spoke with breast radiologist Karen Hou, M.D., about the hospital’s use of new technology and innovative practices in breast imaging and risk assessment.

ITN editors Jeff Zagoudis and Dave Fornell were active on social media during the visit, reaching 90,000 unique Facebook users with the content the week of the visit. For the first time, the team made use of a 360 degree camera to capture new views of various imaging rooms and equipment across the hospital.

“It is not enough to just cover an industry based on press releases and conferences, you need to visit sites in the field. In healthcare, this means visiting hospitals. In 2018, ITN created a new strategy on how it covers site visits, maximizing the time spent at the facility shooting images for use with web content, filming several videos, electronic and print articles, use of a 360 degree camera for imaging system installations and social media posts during the visit. This strategy has been part of ITN’s efforts to expand on its multimedia cross-platform industry coverage. The team has worked hard to implement this new structure, and I am very proud of the editorial team for its successful execution,” said ITN Editorial Director Melinda Taschetta-Millane.

ITN was also recognized with multiple 2019 Regional Azbee Awards in the Upper Midwest Region, including:

  • Silver — Online Single Topic Coverage by a Team: Proton Therapy

  • Bronze — Print, Regular Column, Contributed: Insights in the Medical Imaging Industry, Greg Freiherr

The 2019 Cross-Platform Package of the Year honorable mention is ITN’s first Azbee recognition at the national level.

The Azbee Awards of Excellence, bestowed annually by the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE), recognize the best editorial, online content and design in business-to-business (B2B) media. This year, according to ASBPE, more than 1,100 entries were received and 89 experienced B2B editors and designers judged the 68 categories of entries.

ITN delivers industry news to nearly 35,000 purchase influencers in radiology, radiation oncology, women’s health and nuclear medicine departments at U.S.-based hospitals and imaging/oncology centers.
