myQA Halo specifically designed to enable independent commissioning and efficient beam data collection for Varian Halcyon system

Varian Halcyon Commissioned at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center With IBA's myQA Halo

April 4, 2019 — IBA (Ion Beam Applications S.A.) announced the successful commissioning of the Varian Halcyon radiation therapy system at the Radiation Oncology Center at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, based on an IBA Dosimetry independent beam scanning solution.

IBA has designed myQA Halo, a dedicated solution that allows medical physicists to efficiently and accurately perform all the required scanning for commissioning, acceptance and annual testing of the Halcyon system. The team at MedStar Health has now successfully commissioned their new Halcyon Machine version 2.0 using the myQA Halo solution. The entire commissioning work, including system setup and all measurements, was completed efficiently in one day as confirmation of the gold standard data used in the radiation treatment planning system (RTPS).

The myQA HALO system is specifically designed to enable independent commissioning and efficient beam data collection for the Varian Halcyon system. Key components include the Blue Phantom Compact, a small footprint, lightweight water phantom that addresses weight requirements of the Varian Halcyon couch. The Stealth Reference Chamber, with its dedicated Halcyon holder, supports small field beam scanning accuracy and reproducibility of field sizes down to 0.5 x 0.5 cm2. The myQA Accept scanning software enables beam scanning efficiency that is integrated into the myQA global software platform.
