Hospital will use innovative features to enhance image quality and boost productivity

Iowa Hospital Network Purchases Carestream Ultrasound, X-ray Units

August 30, 2017 — Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, recently purchased and installed two Carestream Touch Prime XE Ultrasound Systems to capture radiology, OB/GYN, vascular, pediatric and interventional imaging studies. Covenant Medical Center is a 366-bed, full-service, multi-specialty hospital. A third Touch Prime Ultrasound XE system is deployed at Mercy Hospital, an affiliated critical access hospital in Oelwein, Iowa.

“Carestream’s ultrasound platform offers excellent image quality, enhanced ease of use and innovative features we didn’t find on other ultrasound systems,” said Kris Messner, Covenant’s radiology manager. “Its sealed touchscreen console is easy to clean and sonographers can capture an image using a button on the transducer, which is helpful for complex exams that don’t allow the sonographer to stand next to the system.”

The design of the Touch Prime XE Ultrasound System is based upon recommendations by ultrasound professionals and ergonomic experts. The system is fully adjustable to accommodate all scanning positions, which can help reduce repetitive stress injuries. A swipe of a badge activates each sonographer’s preferences and presets.

Carestream’s Smart Flow Imaging visualizes blood flow in all directions, independent of imaging angle. The Touch Prime XE system simultaneously provides enhanced spatial detail with increased frame rates for improved visualization of moving structures while optimizing image formation to reduce noise and artifacts. This ultrasound system is capable of frame rates in excess of 100Hz while maintaining enhanced imaging detail.

Covenant Medical Center also installed a Carestream DRX-Evolution Plus in its emergency department. The digital radiography (DR) imaging system has a wall stand with a fixed detector while a wireless Carestream DRX Plus 3543 Detector is used in the table and for tabletop exams.

The wall stand has a Bucky-angulation feature that expedites cross-table and other complex exams and reduces the need to move patients who are seriously ill or injured. The table can be lowered to help position fragile patients, and an autotracking feature moves the X-ray tube into position to help reduce fatigue and repetitive stress injuries for technologists. A remote control lines up the X-ray tube to either Bucky to further streamline the imaging process.

The hospital purchased a small-format Carestream DRX 2530C detector, which helps enhance quality and reduce dose for extremity and pediatric exams as well as images captured in the operating suites.

Covenant Medical Center previously installed two Carestream DRX-Revolution Mobile X-ray Systems for portable imaging and retrofitted several X-ray imaging rooms with Carestream DRX detectors.
