Fujifilm Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. announced that The Mammography Center of Monterey, an ACR-accredited breast imaging center based in Monterey, Cali., has installed Fujifilm’s ASPIRE Cristalle FFDM system with Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT). The innovative 3-D breast imaging technology has been in use at the center since April.

In business for 28 years, The Mammography Center of Monterey was seeking to expand its offerings with the latest mammography technology. The facility decided to make an investment in the latest advanced technology versus staying with a traditional 2-D system. After evaluating competitive breast tomosynthesis units—and speaking with both a technologist and a radiologist familiar with the ASPIRE Cristalle—the facility opted for Fujifilm’s ASPIRE Cristalle.
“Radiologists at the center are impressed with the technology and their ability to clearly see details, especially in images of dense breast tissue,” said Mary Lou Catania, RN, founder and president, The Mammography Center of Monterey.
According to Catania, since the center began using ASPIRE Cristalle with DBT, recall rates have dropped and in fact, there have been no patients recalled due to dense breast images.
Catania also stated that the Fujifilm system is easy-to-use, comfortable for patients, and affordable. She credits the company with a smooth installation and excellent training, saying technologists quickly got up to speed on the ASPIRE Cristalle and were able to rapidly get back on track performing a backlog of patient exams.
The ASPIRE Cristalle FFDM system with DBT combines Fujifilm’s state-of-the-art hexagonal close pattern (HCP) detector design, advanced image processing and image acquisition workflow to optimize patient dose while maximizing image quality.
