August 25, 2014 — Siemens Healthcare has received 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for ADMIRE (Advanced Modeled Iterative Reconstruction), the company’s new image reconstruction algorithm for computed tomography (CT). ADMIRE supplements SAFIRE (Sinogram Affirmed Iterative Reconstruction), Siemens’ raw-data based iterative reconstruction algorithm, which can provide a radiation dose reduction of up to 60 percent. The goal in CT imaging is to use a dose level that is as low as reasonably achievable. Low-dose imaging is sometimes limited because using less radiation tends to reduce image quality. ADMIRE improves reconstructed image quality and can result in images with a natural image impression, thus enabling previously unachievable low-dose imaging in many studies.

Now available on the Somatom Force — Siemens’ new dual-source CT system — ADMIRE uses additional modeling loops that help deliver improved resolution at high contrast edges. With the combination of SAFIRE, ADMIRE and the technology in the SOMATOM Force, Siemens can deliver studies at very low doses that maintain image quality and preserve image impression.
