August 11, 2014 — NeoCoil LLC announced it has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market its new stand-alone wireless headphones and patient alert system. The NeoCoil wireless two-way audio system is NeoCoil's first wireless patient communication and entertainment system designed specifically to work in the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) environment.

NeoCoil's wireless headphones are a new alternative for patients apprehensive about undergoing an MRI. It eliminates the need to be attached to long plastic tubes that are characteristics of conventional pneumatic headphones. In addition to hearing the technologist more clearly, patients can listen to customized music. Communication from the patient to the technologist is further improved by a directional microphone that enables two-way communication, even during the loudest of MRI scans. The "push-to-talk" design interrupts the music stream for clear communication between the patient and technologist.

NeoCoil's wireless two-way audio system offers a simplified workflow for the technologist, and includes an MRI-compatible, lithium polymer battery that allows continuous use without the need for recharging between patients. The system also includes a wireless hand-held alert that fits comfortably in the patient's hand, allowing the patient to signal the technologist without even having to speak.
