June 2, 2014 — Beginning this month, candidates interested in becoming American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)-certified and registered in a post-primary category can complete the entire application process online, from submitting clinical experience procedures to the application itself. The new tool guides individuals through the process from start to finish, tracking and calculating progress toward completion of the clinical experience requirements and streamlining the verification process.

Candidates using ARRT certification and registration as a supporting category will be able to sign into their My ARRT Info account to begin the process. However, if a candidate has already started documenting procedures on paper, there is an option for continuing to do so for the remainder of the procedures. Instructions for completing the paper process are also available once candidates log in. Candidates using ARDMS or NMTCB registration as a supporting category will still need to call the ARRT office to initiate the paper process for now.

To be eligible for post-primary certification and registration, candidates must meet education, ethics and examination requirements. The educational criteria are currently met when the individual demonstrates prior education through certification and registration in a supporting category and completion of an established set of clinical experience requirements. Then, the application for certification and registration helps identify any potential ethical violations. Finally, the exam assesses the knowledge and cognitive skills underlying the intelligent performance of the tasks typically required for staff technologists practicing at entry-level within the discipline. Once all of these requirements have been met, candidates have demonstrated their qualifications and are awarded the credential for that discipline.
