May 22, 2014 — Viztek showcased its new Exa EHR (electronic health record) platform at the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) annual meeting in Long Beach, Calif. Viztek is delivering the first EHR that is embedded into PACS (picture archiving and communications system), enabling radiologists to share and exchange data as required by meaningful use.

“Considering that the majority of PACS today don’t have the database necessary to store and present data critical to meaningful use requirements, the Viztek Exa was built with functionalities that are more valuable than ever for forward-thinking radiologists preparing for the oncoming stages of meaningful,” said Steve Deaton, vice president of Viztek.

Because it is embedded into the PACS, Exa has the ability to store data transmitted through interfaces and cleanly display the information for radiologists, allowing them to view a patient’s complete medical history, which can include important factors such as a family history of disease. Access to this patient information enables a more informed diagnosis while also allowing radiologists and their facilities to meet meaningful use requirements for exchanging and sharing data.

Other benefits of the Exa EHR platform include:

  • Single Workstation: Viztek enables radiologists to view any study — computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray, mammography, positron emission tomography (PET) and more – and have full capabilities from a single workstation.
  • Thin-Client Server: With the Viztek Exa server hardware requiring fewer devices, the process of delivering necessary updates is expedited. The benefits trickle into the financial bottom line for facilities as well through the thinner hardware and efficient updates, leading to lower overall maintenance costs and staff resources necessary to support IT needs.

The entirely Web-based Viztek Exa is the first platform-agnostic EHR solution capable of full functionality at the browser-based level regardless of the operating system or device used, and it efficiently weaves together the company’s established expertise in practice management, billing, order entry, PACS, radiology reports, patient portals and more.
