mri systems rsna 2013 GE healthcare dv24.0 silent scan software

November 18, 2013 — GE Healthcare will introduce new software to help humanize magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with the DV24.0 Continuum Pak Silent Scan noiseless MRI at the Radiological Society of North America 2013 Annual Meeting (RSNA 2013) in Chicago. The software enhancement helps eliminate the majority of MRI noise on the Optima MR450w, Optima MR450w with GEM, Discovery MR750 and Discovery MR750w with GEM scanners.

Noise is one of the major complaints from patients who undergo an MRI exam. One feature of DV24.0 is Silent Scan, a technology introduced last year that is designed to reduce MR scanner noise to near ambient (background) sound levels. With this first-to-market technology, clinicians can now scan patients in silence using T1, PD, MRA acquisitions, as well as a Propeller motion-insensitive-based implementation of T2 and Flair as part of the Silent Neuro exam package.

DV24.0 can increase productivity up to 30 percent compared to previous generations. These improvements are possible due to workflow enhancements based on the new eXpress PreScan and Workflow 2.0 features. The new enhancements will not only increase productivity, but also drive efficiency through reducing the number of mouse clicks for technologists.

DV24.0 also features enhancements to increase diagnostic confidence. By evaluating top clinical needs and trends, GE MR has improved 3-D imaging through a real-time motion correction technique called Promo that automatically compensates for head motion. Additionally, DV24.0 possesses the ability to optimize for image quality and signal to noise. Focus provides high-resolution, organ-specific diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) for a small field of view.

Mavric SL, a new technique designed for imaging the joints of patients with MR conditional implants, is also featured in DV24.0. It was developed in response to a growing clinical need for assessing soft tissues in the vicinity of arthroplasty and MR conditional instrumentation.  It is estimated that by 2030, arthroplasty revisions in the United States will increase by 137 percent for hips and 601 percent for knees from 2005 levels. Images generated by MAVRIC SL are intended provide data that may be useful in helping clinicians to image tissue adjacent to the MR conditional instrumentation and take action to correct complications from joint implants.

GE will also be showcasing several of its MR systems during RSNA 2013, including Discovery MR750w 3.0T, Optima MR360 Advanced and Optima MR430s. These products are built on a platform designed to help clinicians increase imaging productivity and diagnostic confidence while addressing patient comfort and the MR experience. GE MR is excited to continue putting the patient first at this year’s RSNA through patient centricity, enhanced diagnostic confidence, and efficiency with productivity.

The Silent Scan MRA acquisition features Focus, and Promo are U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k)-pending and are not currently available for sale.
