September 26, 2013 – The ASRT Foundation and RAD-AID International have announced plans to offer a program for radiation therapists to teach in China.
The program will provide radiation therapists with the opportunity to travel to China to lecture at specialty conferences, spearhead didactic teaching at medical facilities, participate in equipment demonstrations and develop case discussions. Lectures will cover a broad range of topics including practice techniques, quality control and patient safety.
“According to RAD-AID’s 2010 Radiology-Readiness Assessment, Chinese imaging professionals benefit from additional educational opportunities,” said ASRT Foundation board of trustees chair Parsha Hobson, M.P.A., R.T. “Through the radiation therapy teaching program, we’re confident that radiation therapy professionals in China will learn advanced skills that they can apply in the workplace, ultimately resulting in improved patient care.”
A minimum of two teams with expertise in imaging for radiation therapy planning and execution will be selected annually. For each team, the ASRT Foundation will provide funding for one board-certified radiation therapist to join a radiation oncologist or radiologist sponsored by RAD-AID International.
“RAD-AID’s partnership with the ASRT Foundation in offering this program is a cornerstone of our commitment to building interdisciplinary teams with diverse skill sets to foster international collaboration for global radiology and radiation therapy. This new program embodies our commitment to international education and strengthening collaboration among imaging professionals and radiation therapists,” said RAD-AID chief executive officer Daniel Mollura.
