ZS3 platform expands family of Zone Sonography Technology systems

October 8, 2012 — Zonare Medical Systems announced the introduction of its new ZS3 premium ultrasound system. The ZS3 expands the company’s family of Zone Sonography Technology (ZST) systems. The platform provides expanded penetration for greater diagnostic capabilities.

“The ZS3 offers superb high frequency imaging in the abdomen with enormous penetration,” said Jörg Bönhof, M.D., Stiftung Deutsch Klinik für Diagnostik, Wiesbaden, Germany. “This makes structures visible [that] I have never seen before. For example, I can now visualize normal amounts of fluid around organs, such as the liver, spleen and bowel, even with the most challenging of patients.”

The ZS3 uses Zonare’s Living Technology, which delivers ultrasound imaging excellence based on a dynamic and open architecture that allows continual platform evolvement to meet the changing needs of clinicians. Zone Sonography Technology is an innovative approach to echo data acquisition and image formation. Using a small number of large "zones," ZST acquires ultrasound data up to ten times faster than conventional systems and implements the full reality of data acquisition and management in software rather than hardware.

“We have previously set expectations high with ZST,” said Glen McLaughlin, founder and chief technology officer for Zonare. “However, we believe the performance of the ZS3 will be even higher. This addition to our growing suite of ultrasound systems will provide a significant additional option for fulfilling imaging needs.”

The ZS3 moves ZST into the premium ultrasound market. The initial system will have a wide variety of transducer options with more under development as the technology continues to grow. Most transducers also are compatible with the z.one ultra and z.one ultra sp systems as part of the Zonare family of ZST products. The ZS3 system is offered with a five-year warranty, including transducers, at no additional cost to the clinician. Software updates are covered by the warranty while enrichments, such as new applications or transducers, will be offered as purchasable options.

“Our goal is to expand our family of robust ultrasound choices while providing an unsurpassed and highly reliable platform,” said Timothy Marcotte, president and CEO of ZONARE. “The ZS3 is one of the only premium ultrasound systems on the market today [that] offers such an extended warranty. We believe our ZST architecture can provide significant value while enabling excellence in performance and generating a pathway to a new diagnostic standard.”
