Radiologists can streamline imaging workflows while satisfying data capture, reporting requirements

August 15, 2012 — Carestream’s Vue radiology information system (RIS) version 11 is now 2011/2012 compliant and was certified as a complete EHR (electronic health record) on July 27, 2012, by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT), an ONC-ATCB in accordance with the applicable eligible provider certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Imaging centers with a Carestream Vue RIS do not need to purchase an EMR (electronic medical record) to address meaningful use (MU) requirements. The Vue RIS EHR module is available for order by imaging centers, radiologists, orthopedists and other eligible professionals.

“Carestream’s Vue RIS version11 provides a complete EHR that allows radiologists and other specialists to efficiently manage imaging workflows while simultaneously capturing and reporting the data required to satisfy Stage 1 requirements for electronic health records,” said Diana L. Nole, president, digital medical solutions, Carestream Health. “With our Vue RIS, physicians can enhance patient care while achieving operational efficiencies and reduced expenses.”

Radiologists, orthopedists and other specialists that have met MU requirements by Oct. 1, 2012, can receive up to $44,000 per eligible provider in stimulus incentives. Eligible providers who achieve MU after that date are eligible for $39,000 each. MU regulations also contain penalties for those who do not meet requirements.

In addition to collecting or tracking receipt of Stage 1 data (including an active patient medication list and a number of ambulatory clinical quality measures), Carestream’s RIS also provides: embedded voice recognition; critical results reporting; centralized patient scheduling; and management reports that track patient referrals by physician and modality reading by each radiologist. RIS management tools provide profitability rates for each modality, patient wait times and volumes by modality or location, and the ability to examine imaging workflows to eliminate bottlenecks or unnecessary tasks.

Vue RIS contains a native ACR peer review feature that tracks reviews of an original diagnosis by a second radiologist and meets requirements set by the American College of Radiology. It also provides specialized auditing/tracking functions for mammography exams that enable organizations to become MQSA certified without the need for a separate mammography information system.

This certification does not represent an endorsement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or guarantee the receipt of incentive payments.
