July 20, 2010 – IBA Dosimetry will showcase its latest innovation in radiation therapy commissioning solutions, the Blue Phantom[2] water phantom equipped with advanced Linear Diode Array technology (LDA-99SC) at the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Annual Meeting in Philadelphia this week. The LDA-99SC enables hospitals to shorten the time between installation and clinical use of new radiation therapy equipment, resulting in swifter patient treatment.

Linear diode array technology is used by medical physicists to gain more data in a dramatically shortened amount of time. Compared to traditional methods, where only one detector measures the dose output of the linear accelerator in a lengthy point-by-point approach, the LDA-99SC measures an entire dose profile at once. Exceptionally high data accuracy is accomplished by the highest detector spacing resolution available, in combination with an advanced, multi-scanning routine that performs automatic shifts and measurements of the LDA-99SC with an accuracy down to 0.5 mm.

Time-consuming beam measurements can now be completed up to three times faster, resulting in accelerated initial commissioning and annual linear accelerator quality assurance checks. This new technology enables medical physicists to spend considerably less time on routine data acquisition, and more time on actual clinical work.
