Mammography Indicator Markers by IZI Medical Products.

April 1, 2010 - Two newly released radiolucent mammography markers are designed to help technologists give radiologists a way to easily identify the area of interest, resulting in a faster and more accurate diagnosis.

The two new lines of flat mammography markers, Mammography Indicator Markers, are available in radiolucent and radiopaque varieties, and function as reference points used by mammography technologists to accurately and reliably indicate an area of interest on the breast (e.g. masses, scar tissue, moles, etc.) in diagnostic mammograms.

Unlike round BBs and wires, which are commonly used in mammography, the flat technology in Mammography Indicator Markers is designed to prevent indentation of the patient’s skin that can create question and confusion in results. The flat technology also eliminates artifacts that often appear on scans due to the use of lesser quality marking technology, therefore eliminating any need for the patient to be rescanned due to artifacts.

The Mammography Indicator Markers include:
• Used in mammography to identify masses, scar tissue, moles, birthmarks, nipples, or any point of interest
• Flat design to prevent indentation of patient tissue to eliminate artifacts
• Available in pink radiolucent ink and radiopaque black ink
• Clear adhesive backing with double pull tabs for application and removal
• Disposable

The manufacturer, IZI Medical Products, uses pink ink allows the markers to appear radiolucent on a scan, and marker will not hide underlying pathology. Other features include:
- Lead free, nontoxic;
- Available in: circles (12 mm); dots (1.5 mm, 2 mm, 2.5 mm); line (2.5 mm, 1.5 mm, 0.8 mm); triangles (10 mm);
Radiopaque - Markers appear radiopaque on a scan - Lead free, nontoxic; and
- Available in: crosses (3.17 mm); dots (3.17 mm); lines (3.3 mm). They are designed to be visible in scans.
