Viztek, a Raleigh-based radiology solution company, is debuting a new Smart Card Reader for its Opal-RAD family of PACS offerings.

“The new Viztek Smart Card Reader is an important convenience feature for any medical practice using a PACS. It is particularly beneficial to workflow for an orthopedic group or any medical practice where physicians need to view images occasionally throughout the day,” said Steve Deaton, vice president of Sales for Viztek. “Without such a reader, most imaging sites have to complete a manual log-in process whenever we needed to review images for HIPAA compliance.

The new card system seamlessly guides users through security clearance and logs them directly into their account, complete with their user preferences, worklists and more. Each card is magnetically encoded with the individual’s personal security information. The Opal-RAD Smart Card Readers can be attached to all workstations running on any Opal-PACS product offering. The new Opal-RAD Smart Card package is available for any new and existing Opal PACS installations.
