The Planmed Nuance Excel FFDM unit (currently not FDA approved) boasts proprietary TriFilter technology with the new Tungsten X-ray tube, designed to reduce levels of radiation during a digital mammography exam. This new technology uses less than 60 percent of the dose normally used in conventional digital mammography. In combination with the high performance, a 24-by-30-cm amorphous selenium-based direct digital detector and dedicated image processing, the unit reportedly excels in image quality and diagnostic performance.
