August 29, 2008 - Truman Medical Centers (TMC) became one of the first hospitals in the U.S. to install the Siemens SOMATOM Definition AS 128-slice CT scanner this week. The 128-slice CT scanner is a highly adaptive scanner, providing exceptional image quality with minimal radiation exposure to the patient.

The Siemens SOMATOM Definition AS 128-slice CT scanner was recently approved by the FDA, and developed with adaptive dose shielding technology that reportedly eliminates unnecessary radiation exposure to the patient through the pre and post scan range.

The AS 128 will also allow the performance of perfusion imaging of the entire brain, which will demonstrate blood flow throughout the organ over a short period of time. Other angiographic techniques will be able to be used for assessment of vascular pathways throughout the body, including the coronary arteries.
