July 11, 2008 - Oshkosh Specialty Vehicles, an Oshkosh Corp. company, delivered a magnetic-resonance imaging (MRI) mobile vehicle to the Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Waco, TX, at a dedication ceremony on Tuesday, July 1.
The unit will help the hospital better serve its veteran patients, giving them easier access to the latest MRI technology.

The 3.0T MRI technology is used to diagnose various conditions, from torn ligaments to heart disease. Oshkosh Specialty Vehicles is one of the only manufacturers who has mobilized this technology in a newly designed vehicle that aims to provide maximum space and versatility as a cost-efficient mobile medical solution.

The newly purchased Oshkosh apparatus includes an aluminum, welded body structure with 17-inch, twin I-beam chassis and an air-ride suspension. It has an industrial-rated heating, air conditioning and chiller system. Built in collaboration with Philips Medical Systems, it will offer exactly the same functionality as a fixed site MRI system, with the latest MRI technology features, including magnet, gradient and RF advancements, providing enhanced performance and an improved field of view. The system is lightweight and magnetically shielded to allow for easier transportation.
