March 3, 2008 – GE Healthcare will be the only supplier of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, where two of the company’s Signa HDe 1.5T systems will be installed in the Olympic Village General Hospital, providing use to all international competing athletes during the games.
The system is designed to help clinicians at the Olympic Village General Hospital by providing high-definition images, but also by decreasing operation costs (water, electricity, liquid helium,) by up to 40 percent.
MRI systems within close proximity of the sporting competitions will reportedly allow for an earlier diagnosis and treatment with a view to maximize the time of play for an athlete and prevent extended the loss of training time.
