May 16, 2007– In a $2 million deal, Providence Health Care organization, which operates seven facilities in Vancouver, Canada and provides care to over 372,000 patients per year, will implement Misys Laboratory, a laboratory information system developed by Misys Healthcare Systems, to assist its physicians in making better-informed care decisions through quick access to patient laboratory data.
By implementing Misys Laboratory, St. Paul’s and Mount Saint Joseph join other Vancouver healthcare facilities in optimizing laboratory efficiency through Misys’ SMART module, which encompasses specimen management, routing and tracking. In addition to the laboratory information system, the labs will implement a microbiology module to enhance microbiology, virology and epidemiological results communication, and a Blood Bank module that supports electronic crossmatching and donor unit tracking. CoPathPlus will be used to integrate Anatomic Pathology with Misys Laboratory. The Misys and CoPathPlus systems will be interfaced with Providence’s electronic patient care system, providing seamless communication of lab orders and result reporting between patient care areas and the laboratory.
The integrated healthcare environment will allow caregivers to share laboratory information within each hospital as well as among its other care facilities. “This initiative will create operational and clinical efficiencies, and will provide a significant step towards service integration between Providence Health Care, Vancouver Coastal Health and Provincial Health Services Authority laboratories,” said Jane Crosby, laboratory service director at Providence Health Care.
