Mercury Computer Systems Inc. today announced a cooperation agreement with the Germany-based Institute of Medical Physics for the development and commercialization of medical imaging technology deployed on the Cell Broadband Engine (BE) processor. The joint work is expected to accelerate the reconstruction and visualization of medical imaging data, as preliminary results show 100-times improvement in computed tomography (CT) reconstruction, Mercury officials said.
The project will integrate algorithms on the cell processor to deliver orders-of-magnitude performance increases while also reducing the complexity and costs of medical image processing systems.
Mercury also announced a three-year agreement with Los Angeles-based Genesis Digital Imaging to provide PACS solutions for integration into Genesis product offerings. Genesis will distribute Mercury's Visage web-enabled PACS solutions under its product umbrella Omni-WEB PACS throughout the North American market.
