MiniCAT, a CT system developed by Xoran Technologies, captures images at a dose nearly 10 to 12 times lower than conventional CT scanners, according to a recent study at the Mayo Clinic.

The system is specifically designed for head and neck imaging tasks that are critically dependent on spatial resolution, is generally found in the offices of Ear, Nose and Throat physicians and Allergists.

The upright design of MiniCAT allows patients to sit in a normal position, without sedation, and the scan is complete in 40 seconds or less. The upright position eliminates the claustrophobia many experience when entering the bore of a standard CT system. The low radiation can be useful for patients at higher risk from radiation exposure, such as children.

The system features sub-millimeter isotropic spatial resolution for sinuses, skull base and temporal bones to better visualize small anatomic structures, critical to assessing morphology and pathological processes. It has a voxel size of 0.3 mm x 0.3 mm x 0.3 mm.
