The Consumer Healthcare Products Association issued the following statement in support of today’s U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (Senate HELP Committee) confirmation of acting Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Andrew von Eschenbach:

"CHPA commends Senate HELP Committee Chair Michael Enzi (R-Wyo.), Ranking Member Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), and all of the distinguished members of the full committee for their progress in the confirmation of acting FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach to permanently head the agency. As one of the strongest regulatory agencies in the world, the United States Food and Drug Administration continues to play a critical and increasingly important role in protecting the health of all Americans. CHPA has long recognized and supported an FDA Commissioner with solid scientific and medical credentials to lead this vital agency and feels strongly that Dr. von Eschenbach’s professional background and commitment to improving public health will serve this important regulatory agency well. We are hopeful that the U.S. Senate will move swiftly on floor consideration of the FDA Commissioner."
