Philips' Essence Provides Improved CT Image Quality

Philips' Essence technology is a combination of X-ray tube, detector system and reconstruction design elements designed to improve image quality of CT exams.

The new Brilliance 64 with Essence technology is designed for all routine radiological imaging including cardiac CT. Brilliance iCT offers 256 slices and high speed, X-ray tube power, coverage and efficient dose utility, said Philips.

Other reported features include:

- Smart Focal Spot X-ray tube technology made to improve sampling density for enhanced spatial resolution

- New Nano-Panel detectors designed to enable fast and dose-efficient examinations

- RapidView Reconstruction made to provide high temporal resolution in reconstructed images through adaptive, rate-responsive techniques to freeze patient motion during acquisition

These two new scanners also employ the Philips-exclusive Step & Shoot Cardiac imaging technique. This method of acquisition reportedly provides high quality CT images of the coronary arteries and heart anatomy at reduced radiation dose levels and short breath-holds.
