McKesson announced the general availability of its Connect-RN solution for
nurses - the first product to integrate bar-code medication administration, medication cabinets and pharmacy information systems on a single mobile device.
From anywhere in the hospital, nurses can use Connect-RN to control
medication retrieval and administration. With a few clicks on the Horizon
Admin-Rx device, the nurse automatically generates the list of medications to
be administered and identifies the exact locations for all specified medications, including stationary or mobile medication cabinets, carts and other locations.
Through the Horizon MedComm-Rx order transmission system, nurses also can electronically notify the pharmacy and prioritize missing doses, refill requests, schedule changes, overrides and other routine communications.
With Connect-RN's intelligent integration, nurses are better positioned to
comply with Joint Commission standards. Connect-RN provides nurses with
"anywhere" access to patient information such as allergies, and alert them to
omitted, late and early medications. Furthermore, nurses can alert the
pharmacy with detailed information regarding missing medications, overdose/underdose, overrides and other warnings.
