Progressive Radiology provides fast, intuitive, secure results-delivery with InteleConnect

The pervasiveness of mobile technology inspires Progressive Radiology to set a new standard for excellent service and win new business by offering Intelerad’s referring physician results-delivery portal, InteleConnect.

About Progressive Radiology
Progressive Radiology is the largest radiologist-owned and operated medical imaging practice in the Maryland and Washington D.C. area. The practice includes 10 locations, served by 16 board-certified radiologists.

Mobile Technology Presents Opportunity to Differentiate Practice
As in any industry, technology advances offer the radiology community new opportunities for differentiation. Evolving technologies and trends also prompt new demands from referring physicians.

Progressive Radiology is built upon a principle of providing accurate, precise results on which patients and referring physicians can depend. As referring physicians began embracing mobile computing, Progressive Radiology executives resolved to set the practice apart from its competitors by leveraging mobile technology to provide better, easier, more streamlined results delivery.

InteleConnect Offers Secure, Low-Overhead Results Delivery
Several years ago, Progressive Radiology adopted Intelerad’s IntelePACS solution, an enterprise-level medical imaging solution for archiving, sharing and distributing images and reports. Impressed by the functionality, reliability and sophistication of IntelePACS, Progressive Radiology’s Director of Information Systems, Dominic Mezzanotte, was not surprised when Intelerad introduced its mobile-friendly results-delivery solution.

InteleConnect, Intelerad’s brandable, zero-footprint, secure referring physician portal, caught Mezzanotte’s attention at the 2010 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting. He was impressed by the product’s ease of use, low overhead and, most importantly, its ability to quickly deliver images and reports to referring physicians in a secure, consistent and intuitive way.

Feature Set Tailored to Needs of Referring Physicians
Designed specifically for the needs of referring physicians, InteleConnect does not require any training or installation of software. The portal can be accessed from Windows and Mac browsers, as well as mobile devices and smart phones.

For Progressive Radiology, InteleConnect has become a powerful tool for generating new business for the practice. “We’ve found it to be a very marketable application,” Mezzanotte says. “Everyone thinks it’s amazing.”

Referrers praise the ease of use, finding the portal easy to navigate. They also appreciate the ability to customize the results notification features to suit their individual preferences.

Portal-Based Results Delivery Provides Competitive Advantage
“A lot of referrers are looking for mobile, anytime/anywhere access,” Mezzanotte says. Since other practices in the area were not meeting that demand, InteleConnect provided Progressive Radiology with a powerful competitive advantage. “This is putting us ahead of the curve,” he says. “It has absolutely helped attract more referrers.”

Since rolling out InteleConnect in 2011, the practice has received nothing but positive feedback from the referring physician community. “The clinical liaisons come back and tell us the referrers love this,” says Mezzanotte.

On iPads and other mobile platforms, Progressive Radiology’s referrers are using InteleConnect to access results and images in a wide range of contexts — as a clinical viewer from the operating room to family functions and their kids’ sporting events.

Zero-Footprint Implementation Meets Strict Hospital IT Requirements
One of the reasons behind the portal’s success is its zero-footprint implementation, which does not require any additional software. The strict IT policies enforced by hospitals and medical clinics typically impose severe constraints on the ability to install software solutions. For a radiology practice, this restricts the ability to enhance the service level or improve the experience of referring physicians.

Prior to rolling out InteleConnect, Progressive Radiology would e-mail, fax and sometimes even resort to courier in order to deliver timely results within the technology limitations imposed upon the practice.

InteleConnect provides a superior, instant results-delivery option that does not require any specialized software installation. “It is a much easier solution to roll out,” says Mezzanotte, also noting InteleConnect’s lower-cost advantage.

Progressive Approach Improves Business, Benefits Patients and Referrers
With its successful InteleConnect rollout impressing existing referrers and winning new business for the practice, Progressive Radiology is living up to its name and setting a new service-level standard in the Maryland and Washington, D.C. area.
