KLAS examines changes in clinical vendor market share in large hospitals

October 30, 2013 — According to the KLAS report Clinical Market Share 2013: More than Meaningful Use, Cerner Corporation and Epic Systems combined captured more than three-fourths of new large-hospital electronic medical records (EMR) contracts, while the other vendors struggled to keep pace.

"The HITECH Act that started this mass migration is clearly not over. There are over 400 large hospitals that still do not utilize a currently marketed EMR and thus still face a decision," said Colin Buckley, report author. "The question is which way they will go and which factors will guide that decision."

As part of the study, KLAS examined the most widely used EMRs purchased by acute care hospitals with over 200 beds, including systems from Allscripts, Cerner, Epic, McKesson, Medical Information Technology Inc. (MEDITECH) and Siemens.
