Barco Expands New Generation of High-Performance Display Controllers

August 2, 2011 – Healthcare imaging specialist Barco has launched the MXRT-5450, a Dual-DVI display controller featuring the latest AMD FirePro professional graphics for superior performance and ultra-fast image loading. The MXRT-5450 is the latest member of Barco's new line of display controllers for healthcare imaging, featuring better performance when handling large datasets as well as improved OpenGL and DirectX functionality.

Barco developed the new display controller together with AMD to make new imaging technologies available for current medical displays. Equipped with two DVI connectors and the latest AMD FirePro professional graphics, the MXRT-5450 allows for simple upgrades and enables radiologists to use a display system with the latest visualization technology and the highest performance.

Becky Kiichle, product manager display controllers at Barco Healthcare, said, "Our customers let us know they needed flexible technology that can deliver superior imaging within their IT environment. That's why we wanted to offer them a solution with two Dual-link DVI outputs to help them prolong product lifecycles and protect their diagnostic display investments."

As a new member of Barco's display controller series, the MXRT-5450 delivers the performance, quality and stability required for today's 2-D and 3-D imaging applications in healthcare. The board supports DirectX and OpenGL and is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 7. The powerful GPU, based on PCIe Gen 2 x 16 architecture, ensures fast and smooth image loading, roaming and manipulation of images with up to 5.8 MP grayscale resolution.

As part of Barco's system approach, the new MXRT-5450 display controller has been fully tested and optimized to work with Barco's full range of Nio and Coronis display products as well as its MediCal QAWeb software solution. Vigorous compatibility testing also ensures reliable performance with the latest workstations and with the leading PACS applications.
