New Advanced Data Systems tool speeds electronic exam results to referring physicians in vendor agnostic format

October 9, 2013 — Advanced Data Systems (ADS) introduced MedicsConnect, a tool that automatically transmits radiology reports to referring physicians in a vendor agnostic HL7 format compatible with any electronic health record (EHR) system.

The new technology eliminates the need for implementing multiple, costly, customized HL7 interfaces, representing a potential cost savings of tens of thousands of dollars for radiologists. Working conveniently from within a radiology information system (RIS), the application transmits reports over the Internet to a medical practice’s static IP address using secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) to ensure data safety. Referring physicians can configure their EMRs to automatically download the data to the appropriate patient file.

MedicsConnect supports a radiology practice’s marketing efforts by providing an important extra level of customer service. Reliably and seamlessly, it offers referring physicians convenient access to reports, while eliminating the costs to radiologists of implementing customized HL7 interfaces to accept inbound data at key referrers.

“MedicsConnect is almost effortless from the radiologist’s point of view. In just a few mouse clicks, completed reports are transmitted with the highest level of security in a format any referring physician’s system can read and archive,” said David Barzillai, president of ADS. “Finally, sharing electronic radiology reports really is that simple.”

Barzillai points out that with MedicsConnect, communicating electronic reports is as streamlined as faxing and as important a development as automated faxing was 25 years ago. The tool makes it practical and cost-effective for radiologists to provide all the advantages of EHR-compatible radiology reports to referring practices of any size, even to independent practitioners.

MedicsConnect comes integrated into the ADS MedicsRIS and is also available as a stand-alone application for integration into any radiology practice’s RIS solution.
